As we draw closer to the realities gone by, our ancestors will have to stand back and leave it up to us. This is also true for the assessment of America’s guilt after WWII regarding the nation of Japan.
When the men of the US military were still going in and out of that General Headquarter building in Tokyo, they must have felt secure and beyond any doubt about their own credibility. They were the new masters over this Asian nation.
But such high flying emotions did not erase your accountability. Just because your ‘lordship’ was so clear and unquestioned, you must face a stern judgement today; just because you had decided every major aspects of postwar Japan, posterity will have no trouble lining up your actions and intentions, since you were by far the most outstanding player in this evil game. There are no blinding factors, no distortions.
You fully enjoyed your powers and authority.
Now, stand aside; nobody’s interested in more comments and excuses: indeed, you had your time, and now — it’s over.
